Welcome to the Evolvepreneur (After Hours) Show

I am your Special Host Mechelle McDonald

Join me today where we dig deep with our guests and get you the best concepts and strategies to fast-track your business.

My very special guest today is David Fradin ...

David Fradin, a former HP and Apple executive, is an author and expert in product management. His books, such as "Building Insanely Great Products," are available on Amazon. David's mission is to help products succeed, and he has trained global companies, including Cisco, on product management. He emphasizes five keys to product success: market strategy, repeatable process, right information, customer understanding, and required competencies.

David founded Spice Catalyst to assist companies in reducing product failures and increasing success through workshops, courses, and consulting services. His goal is to optimize resources by helping products thrive.

Key Moments:

  • The five keys to product success are: product market strategy, a repeatable process, having the right information, understanding the customer, and having all the required competencies. This is summarized in the acronym SPICE.
  • You cannot simply ask customers what they want. You need to observe what problems they are trying to solve and how they are currently solving them.
  • Innovation comes from observing what customers are doing and finding ways to do it faster, better or at lower cost.
  • Understanding the customer's needs, wants, and pain points is the most important part of product success.
  • Products fail when there is a lack of a repeatable process for development and bringing the product to market.
  • Having the right information and data is essential for product teams to make good decisions.
  • Having all the required competencies and skill sets increases the chances of product success.
  • Reducing product failures can help conserve limited resources.
  • Positioning and messaging based on customer insights are key parts of the product market strategy.
  • Style and aesthetics can be differentiators for products, in addition to functionality.
